Allertonshire knock schools for six
Four schools from across the Joint Partnership finally were able to play and complete the KS3 Girls Cricket Festival 12 months after the first one had to be abandoned because of the weather. Wensleydale, Boroughbridge, Allertonshire and Easingwold had all worked hard in preparation for the event which due to rain had to be postponed from earlier in the term and so two schools had to withdraw.
The competition was played using the Inter Cricket rules in a round robin format. The standard of play increased throughout the competition with some outstanding catches being taken and shots being played. It became apparent that the two teams to watch out for were Wensleydale and Allertonshire and the order of play allowed the two unbeaten sides to play each other in the final match of the round robin format.
In a tight match it was the bowling ability of the Allertonshire girls that proved the difference between the two sides. Their tight bowling prevented Wensleydale from scoring the big runs they had done in the other matches and enabled them to take more wickets.
Congratulations to all those that took part, especially to Allertonshire who won the festival. A big thanks to Richmond Cricket Club for hosting and supporting the event and a special thanks to Mike and Shani for umpiring the matches on the day.
